A Home Amongst the Vines
Situated on one of the Mornington Peninsula’s most prestigious vineyards, overlooking the vines and taking in the views of the distant hills, the contemporary, minimalist façade and fully clad timber exterior of this custom home by award winning builders Quality Built is a dramatic and striking presence in its rural surrounds.
Built to meet the needs of the winemaker as a modern functional home suitable for their rural lifestyle, this stunning new residence might be modest in size but that is where the modesty ends. Working with Finnis Architects, Quality Built have constructed a home that both inside and out can only be described as a work of art, combining quality materials with exceptional craftsmanship in unique design elements that demonstrate the skill and experience of the Quality Built team.
Inside the exceptional workmanship is clearly evident in the extensive custom joinery that features throughout the home including timber veneer panelling and a timber batten system that clads the entire ceiling of the open plan kitchen / dining / living area and alfresco. LED strip lighting has been skilfully set between the battens that when lit create a warm glow and highlight the unique angles and lines of the home.
To create a contrast between the natural woody tones and white painted walls feature timber panelling was stained black adding a sense of strength to the structure. It’s a theme that’s mirrored on the outside also with black stained hardwood timber windows and black stained timber posts to the fencing and landscaping that was also completed by Quality Built.
At the heart of the home a freestanding wood fireplace with custom made black metal fireplace storage and surround creates an unobtrusive separation between the dining and living areas. Black granite tiled floor flows throughout the space and continues the theme of contrasting colours in the kitchen where there are mainly white counters and cabinets.
One requirement of this vineyard home was the need for a cellar large enough to store 10,000 bottles of wine. During construction, ground works required to create the basement level cellar proved challenging however it has certainly paid off as the cellar has become one of the highlights of the home. Built into the granite floor above, glass floor boxes provide a visual view to the cellar creating a fabulous feature in the living area of the home and great talking point for guests.
Behind the living areas a glass link creates a passage to the bedroom wing with its three bedrooms, two bathrooms and laundry. This quieter and more private space is oriented away from the vines leaving the living areas and spacious alfresco to make the most of the vineyard views.
Far from being a dark and uninviting space, this home’s cellar is brightly lit with feature LED lighting that highlights the feature timber clad columns and the wine bottles themselves.
